Screen time and schooling wasn’t always so closely created. Before the pandemic, children spent less than an hour per day on a computer in school. That was right in line with what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends1.
However, and this is important, that 1-hour recommendation DOES NOT include screen time for school work. Due to increased virtual learning during the pandemic, the amount of time someone spends on a screen when they are in school has increased dramatically.
In an article published by edweek.org 1: Teachers say they see the effects of heightened digital exposure in the classroom. In a nationally representative survey by the EdWeek Research Center in February, 88 percent of educators reported that in their experience, students’ learning challenges rose along with their increased screen time.
It's all about the kids right? If that's what helps you sleep at night, but the truth is, too much screen time is bad for adults too. With many adults going back to school and learning at home with their children, they are just as likely to fall victim to too much screen time.
During the pandemic, adults were spending up to 19 hours per day on the screen. A study published by ReidHealth.org 2 found that “those spending six hours or more per day watching screens had a higher risk for depression, and this study found that limiting social media use to 30 minutes per day led to a "significant improvement in well-being."
But Gamer Advantage is for gamers, right? The short answer is yes of course, but that means it's for you too! Pre-pandeminc, pro-gamers clearly spent more time on a screen than most, averaging well over 50 hours per week just for practice3. Fast forward to 2022, now you and your child are spending more time on the screen than the average pro gamer.
Gamer Advantage’s proprietary light absorption technology has been shown to help increase melatonin production as your body prepares for sleep. During the day, the lenses help your eyes feel relaxed and focused.
Of course, limiting your screen time to as little as possible is truly the best solution, but we all know that's nearly impossible. Wearing our glasses could simply be the easiest, most effortless way to better sleep. For children ages 7-13 we recommend the Horizon for an adjustable fit.
